Who We Are

An Eagle's Wing Academic Support Services, LLC provides instructional coaching and professional development services that fit your particular school's goals and pedagogical needs. As senior educators who care deeply about the importance of the teaching profession, our aim is to assist you in increasing student engagement and achievement by maximizing the effectiveness of your staff's teaching practices and to help your teaching staff achieve longevity, joy, and success in their teaching career.

Our owner and instructional coach, Dr. Stacy Johnson, is a veteran classroom teacher, having taught P-20 for almost 30 years before pursuing her Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching--Curriculum and Instruction. She has taught in public, private and charter schools in several states and abroad; is an advocate for students; and has a passion for her teaching peers, understanding the demands, the stressors and the immeasurable joys that come with a career in teaching. She currently serves as a researcher, conference speaker, an Instructional Coach and a Lecturer at The University of Texas at San Antonio.

WHY WE EXIST

WE ARE LOSING OUR TEACHERS

~13% or more of the nation’s teachers move schools or leave the profession every year, (Kain, 2011; Neason, 2014). Research suggests that around 40 to 50 percent quit within five years due to dissatisfaction, which includes inadequate support from the administration, lack of planning time and work overload, feelings of isolation and, in some cases, lack of experience.

WE ARE LOSING OUR STUDENTS

The persistent gap in achievement between White and Black and Brown students has remained one of the most discussed issues in education today (Ladson-Billings, 2006). Ladson-Billings (2006) states that current statistical data shows the gap in reading between fourth grade Black and Latino students and their White contemporaries, whether the minority students all maintain similar socioeconomics with their White school mates or not, to be more than 26 points. In mathematics, it is more than 20 points. This gap has only widened as a result of COVID-19.

ADMIN. IS OVERWHELMED

...it is untenable for principals to completely enact accountability and development on their own...they lack the specialized content knowledge and resources, including the time, for contextualized, ongoing learning opportunities...coaches can broker ideas (bidirectional communication between teachers and principals) on goal setting, observation feedback, and professional development. (Woulfin & Rigby, 2017, pp. 324-325)

Love As Curriculum? ABSOLUTELY!

A Curriculum of Agape: Reimagining Love in the Classroom

This book endeavors to explore love as curriculum, and a force of light, positively impacting teaching practice and student learning. Through an interdisciplinary lens of western and non-western philosophy, scholarship, and storytelling, the author shares her journey along a 30-year practice developing a curriculum of agape—a hidden and explicit curriculum of selfless and radical love, ever pursuant of the unfinished quest for true democracy and social justice in the learning space.  See what educators have to say about the book now available at Amazon, Barnes&Noble, Peter Lang and more:

Dr. Paula Johnson, IDRA EAC-South Director

"I love you for writing this and can't wait for others to partake! It's foundational. Every teacher (pre- or in-service) needs to read it! The insight, style, and equity messaging are (amusingly) synopsized in superb form. It read well and was extremely personal. I loved it!

Dr. Breanne Hicks-Teacher of English and Language Arts

Mr. Ian Mars-Teacher of English and Language Arts
